Pepperdine Lectures
In the spring of 1992, Ken was invited to bring a team of singers to the Pepperdine Lectures to lead four late night times of worship in Smother’s Theater. Interest in worship renewal was beginning to peak the interest of a growing number of leaders in churches of Christ. Since contemporary music and the concept of praise teams were perceived by many as controversial, the late nights seemed the least threatening times for this experience. It was expected that a handful of hardy worshippers would have the stamina and interest to attend this 9:00 p.m. offering. But what happened was a wonderful surprise. Each night, at the end of the last lecture, hundreds of people made the long climb up the mountain from Firestone Fieldhouse to an over-crowded Smother’s Theater. Last May Hallal participated in the lectures for the 10th consecutive year. This event continues to be an important launching point for Hallal’s ministry across the nation and throughout the world.

Day of Praise
Shortly after the first Pepperdine Lectures, Ben Wall from the Costa Mesa church contacted Ken to discuss the dream of planning a spiritual renewal day for southern California that would be similar in energy and spirit to the late nights at Pepperdine. The Lord greatly blessed the preparations for this event that took place in September of 1992. The Bren Events Center on the Campus of the University of Southern California was secured with the hopes that at least 600 would gather for a Sunday afternoon and evening of continuous praise. Over 1200 came. This Day of Praise has been repeated many times in the last decade in 13 different states.

Stream
Hallal Music joined with the Golf Course Road Church of Christ in February of 1996 to begin Stream In the Desert. The purpose of this event was to provide a spiritual renewal weekend for families in the solitude of the desert. The Lord has continued to bless this event over the years. There were 1200 in attendance the first year. In the following three years this event grew on the average of 600 per year. In 2000 the numbers almost doubled from the previous year from 3000 to 5,500. People from over 24 states and several foreign countries have attended Stream In the Desert.

Stream is a carefully and prayerfully planned weekend with extended times of worship, bible study, prayer, small group interaction and family entertainment. The schedule is a simple one with few choices. The purpose of Stream is to provide families an opportunity to retreat from the busy pace of life and enjoy a deeper fellowship with God.

In January of 2001, Stream Abilene for college students was held at Abilene Christian University. It was an incredible weekend with around 2,500 students from over 40 universities and colleges in attendance. High school seniors were also invited and over 40 high schools were represented. Plans are being considered for future college Streams.
