Beginnings
Hallal Music began in December of 1989. The dream was to provide arrangements and recordings of new music to help encourage worship renewal in churches of Christ. A revival of worship and praise was already sweeping across many evangelical churches, but the vocal arrangements of music being distributed by major publishers were often difficult to grasp without instrumental accompaniment. Ken Young began arranging contemporary music with the intent that it be simple enough for acappella churches to sing while preserving rich and interesting harmonies.
Irving
In August of 1990, Ken and his family made a move from Lubbock to Irving, Texas to work with the South MacArthur church of Christ. Soon after the move Ken and Hallal entered contract relationships with LCS Music Group of Dallas and Howard Publishing. Although Hallal Music continued to develop and grow in the following months, the real explosion of ministry was just ahead.
Midland
In the summer of 1993, the elders from the Golf Course Road Church of Christ in Midland approached Ken with the offer to support him in a full-time role with Hallal Music. Initially, the support came from the missions budget and Hallal was considered a music mission. The Youngs made the move to Midland in August of 1993 to serve as music minister for GCR and direct Hallal Music.
Franklin
In 2003, Ken joined the Fourth Avenue Church of Christ in Historic Downtown Franklin, TN as its new worship minister. Hallal Music was relocated to Tennessee after years of ministry in Texas. During the first year of ministry in Franklin, Hallal Music was able to grow its outreach by operating out of The Bennett House Recording Studios. Despite the connections made through The Bennett House, Hallal's ministry was found to be more effective by operating out of a small and independent recording studio. The constuction of Hallal Studios was completed in March 2007. Hallal Music is rapidly expanding its outreach with new music and through new sources of distribution.
